Shield of Faith

... above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
(Ephesians 6:16)
A breastplate is sometimes referred to as a shield. The difference is that, while a breastplate is worn, (much like a bulletproof vest), a shield is usually carried. It can be small and moveable to protect specific areas, or it can be large as the body.
A shield is made extremely thick so that nothing can penetrate it.
Lies, like fiery darts, come against truth, and seek to destroy our peace, and even cause us to question our salvation. Remember, Satan seeks to destroy souls—the mind, will, and emotions. The shield of faith is strong and yields protection. It is moveable in order to deflect the attacks of Satan, and stops temptation cold.
The apostle Paul teaches in First Corinthians to put faith in the power of God, not in what other people think. God keeps His promises. Satan’s ultimate mission is to destroy our relationship with Christ by coming against anything that is good or pure.

It takes strong faith to stand against Satan’s attacks. Satan would have us believe we are nothing and undeserving of good in our life. God tells us different. We are children of the King and special in His eyes. God does not reside in a church building or a temple somewhere. He lives within each one of His children.
Jesus loves us just as we are. He is not waiting to see what we will become. Strength to overcome struggles and temptations is ours when we choose to utilize our shield of faith.
While driving, have you ever experienced running out of gas? Your car begins to sputter and pop, and then it coasts to a stop. The car is not going anywhere until it gets fuel. That is the way we are without faith. Without faith, we are empty and disconnected from our power source.
 Faith comes through God's Word.
Fill your soul with His Word, and as your shield of faith becomes thicker and stronger, you will have enduring strength to overcome any struggle or temptation you may encounter.
Faith is the dominant message throughout the book of Hebrews. The eleventh chapter is often referred to as the “faith” chapter. Hebrews contains great Scriptures to study when you’re in need of a faith booster.
When God’s thoughts for us become our thoughts, and our faith is in the power of God, we open our life up to His greatness. He gives us strength to handle whatever comes our way. By keeping our shield of faith in position, we can overcome temptation, and God will catapult us to new levels in Him.
What does the Bible say?
“... looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith ...” (Hebrews 12:2)
“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” (Romans 10:17)
“Now faith is the substance of things hope for, the evidence of things not seen .... But without faith it is impossible to please Him ...”
(Hebrews 11:1,6)
“... that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.... ‘Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.’”
(1 Corinthians 2:5,9)

This might be my favorite yet in this series. Maybe because I'm so sure I "have" faith. But when I read your truths, I am convicted that faith is something I need to pick up and use as a shield against the enemy every day, every hour, every minute. It's not a static protection, it's a vital tool to be aimed and wielded against surprise attacks. Bless you!

I think of the many things we use to protect ourselves, and how often we don't think of that brastplate tht should be the most important thing we put on each day. Our walk with or Lord is so important, it surpasses anything else we could do in our lives.

Thanks for the reminder and such a good one to start the week off with, Rita. So many good promises on your blog and lovely links to share. Blessings....

Finding your post today served as confirmation for me. I have been working on doing a youth study on the armor of God and discussing each of the pieces.

Rita! "When God's thoughts become our thoughts...we open ourselves up to God's greatness!" Growing in faith is that process- letting His thoughts permeate my being!" hugs
